Reflections: Portraits of the Elderly as They Once Were

Reflections: Portraits of the Elderly as They Once Were

My eye recently got pulled towards "Reflections". A photo series by Tom Hussey, where he portrays the elderly as they reflect on their younger selves in the mirror. This is a wonderfully done series that gives you pause to think, about the passage of time and the lives we are living.

Beautiful and touching; thank you.

Each life has a powerful story and the reflections on their chosen life profession indicate a servant heart. "Well done thou good and faithful servant," says the Lord, so evident in these touching, unique photos. Thanks, Tom, for your deeply moving insight!!

Absolutely brilliant project!

This is a wonderful touching project. As one of the elderly, I know that in my mind's eye I am still the young person I once was. I had wonderful times and sad times, but would not trade a minute of them.

Very well done, really makes the viewer aware of how quickly their own life is passing by!.... therefore, make every minute count!

Not who they used to be.... who they remained on the inside.. <3

Beautiful

Awesome idea! Very well done, although I'm not a big fan of the HDR-ness of the photos. Keep it up!

I am a 68 year old male who spent 21 years in the military, eight as a truck driver and truck driving instructor, and several more in various administrative and supervisory positions. I exercise regularly and consider myself to be in better physical condition than many of my peers, despite fairly severe osteoarthritis and having experienced a few physical injuries which have begun to catch up with me. It is often hard to accept the fact that "I'm not the man I used to be", and even harder when younger people seem to treat me as such...not knowing what I once was. It's nice to see some older people portrayed as they were in their hey-day.

Absolutely wonderful!

Very touching and respectful. Beautifuly done!

I am a Director of an Assisted Living. I think this was amazing. I am recommending my staff check out this site. What a beautiful way to remind us all of the gifts and talents of our elders. All to often we judge a book by its cover and not what is in the pages! Thank you.

This brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you for bringing to light the true beauty that never fades.
My love,
Krystle

so beautiful and heart-wrenching all in one moment. Beautifully done.

These are amazing. A fantastic concept, done flawlessly.

Truly amazing concept!

I'm crying now.

amazing work.love it

memories are different from reflections

Nice concept but these photos are horribly overexposed.

This is great. We need to show more respect for our elderly- they raised us.

It's art, not real photos, obviously. Still cool, but it would be neat to see real older photos.

Love it !

Truly amazing and touching. Love the gorgeous colors and professional execution.

An image is worth a thousand words! Well done....

This is awesome...how do they do this?

Beautiful photos! Very moving, I'd like to have one like that of myself someday.

Well done.

Absolutely brilliant! I love this concept and the shots are fabulous.

Wonderful very well done!

Love it! I'm a CNA, and through my education and working experiences, these photos remind me of a lesson I learned about people with Alzheimer's. If you show the person a picture of themselves at their present age, (depending on what stage of the disease they are in) they will not recognize the person in the picture. However if you show them a picture of them when they were younger they will know it's them.

Amazing. I am at lost for words.

Lovely lovely. I remember my mother at 80 saying, "when I look in the mirror I don't know the old woman looking back. I think of myself as a YOUNG woman." As I near 60 I"m thinking the same thing...

this is amazing!

lovely concept beautifully executed x

One Hell of a piece this article is...Emotions beautifully potrayed.. :'(

So true to nature just like litle ones look in the future to what they will become we look at who we are in our own eyes.Just a slowed down version.

Beautiful and moving. Thank you.

I loved it, it made me emotional though, I have a picture of my Mom hanging in my room, she was 22 years old in the picture. She is now 73 and has Parkinson's Disease. I always try to speak to the 22 year old in her when I see her.I feel like she is not the same inside or outside. In others I can still see the young woman or man that they used to be.

Love those pictures! I'm passing them along to my mother, who's 86, as we talk about this very concept, all the time.

I heard an elderly person speak one time of themselves when they looked in a mirror as a very surprised 20 year old inside an 80 year old body. I always figured that was me, in this case it's an almost 66 year old body, but it's the surprised 20 year old all the same.

This...exhibit, brought memories of when I was 17 and worked as a nurses aide in a nursing home in Dorchester. I did not have the proper respect for Seniors even though I was raised to respect my elders because I was too young to understand what living life really meant. It wasn't until I talked to them and listened to the lives they had before their families cast them away and their loved ones died that I truly looked at these great and wonderful seasoned depositories of life stories and wisdom as the treasures they are. These photographs reflect what I experienced at the feet of my elders in their recollections of life. Thank you for your excellent portraits.

I love it! When I look at the elderly I always wondered how did they look? And all the decades they went through.

Wonderful!!

Wonderful project!

When I am busy or filling good I think of myself younger. Until I look In The mirror. Then I say oh. Smile

What lovely photos, brought a smile to my face. The concept is beautiful.

Absolutely, beautiful. Brought, tears to my eyes. Wonderful!

So they were ALL sexy when they were young...none of them were just normal looking? I'm not buying it.

This is beautiful
