Shutterstock's 2020 Color Trends Report: Which Colors Are Anticipated to Dominate?

Which colors are predicted to dominate 2020 creative campaigns? Take a look at this trend report!

Shutterstock, Inc., a global provider of a variety of stock assets, tools, and services, has launched its 2020 Color Trends report. Recognizing the importance of color in delivering a wide spectrum of visual messages, Shutterstock has gathered statistics on tons of data from images downloaded on their platform in the past year. The goal of this report was to reveal which colors had the greatest growth between 2018 and 2019 and anticipate 2020 color trends, similar to the recently released Pantone forecast report.

Shutterstock's customer base includes 1.9 million users, with many of them being involved in the marketing and advertisement industry, including photographers, bloggers, and more. Their creative choices in visual projects and campaigns are often made months in advance, and as such, their download choices have helped forecast color trends in the year ahead. The colors that have grown the most in popularity include:

  • Lush Lava - #FF4500
  • Aqua Menthe - #7FFFD4
  • Phantom Blue - #191970

Anybody involved in the creative industry will know how integral color is standing out in such a saturated visual media and advertising world. Color helps "brands garner attention with their audiences in an effective and meaningful way," according to Lou Weiss, Chief Marketing Officer at Shutterstock, and “as we look to 2020, the data shows a clear shift from the turbo-charged neons of 2019 to more elevated, bold, and saturated colors that command attention in a sophisticated way.”

This color report also reveals the top trending color for 24 countries, ranging from deep purples in Brazil, Thailand, and South Africa to fresh greens in Canada and Germany, and everything in between. If you want to see if your country is included in this list, visit Shutterstock Color Trends report. If you work doesn't depend on keeping up with the latest trends in the industry, this report may be of visual interest on how certain colors work together as a mood board, or it might inspire you to seek out any specific shades that you might want to incorporate in your portfolio or projects.
