just trying some lighting on matte surfaces. Striplight camera right, reflector behind a diffuser camera left, a reflector up top, and a snoot for the background.

I'm gonna guess. One stripbox right, a diffused stripbox left and a beautydish on top. Wonder how far I've come haha, just curious actually what you really used. Great picture!

You did really great, I'm impressed. I like this game.
Thanks.

Hahaha, did I have them all right?

Carlos Teixeira's picture

Almost. I guess you wrote yours before I did the description. but you were very close.

I did indeed, I was pretty fast ;), could have known it was a reflector at left tho. A stripbox would light it from top to bottom.

True, but there's two reasons why I went with the reflector instead. first I wanted to keep the spray body asymmetric, and the lettering in the box is varnished so i wanted to have this round gradient in it. i ended up backing so much on the effect, it's almost imperceptible. but I like the subtlety of the light.

No you can definitely see it, you've made the right choice, I love it!

Carlos, just curious, did you also use some black flags or poly-board between the product and the background to produce the subtle black edge (noticeable on the right)? Love the image by the way. Lots of subtle textures evident.

Not a flag, but it worked in a similar way. I had the stripbox touching the diffuser on the side farther from camera, and this creates a hard edge on the diffuser, effectively working like a flag would (with less defined edge, but as the surface finish is matte this wasn't really that noticeable, as would glass be, for example).

Thats so cool. I've tried shooting the same bottle lately and I couldnt get it to work. Great shot and a great scent ;).

Thanks Mateusz. And it is a great scent.
