Hollywood Circa 1940

December 23, 2018

I've been looking at the work of the old Hollywood glamour photographers like George Hurrell and C.S. Bull, trying to recreate it as much as possible without using old hot lights and Fresnel spots.

This one was done with a snooted Xplor 600PRO high and camera right as a key, a snooted speed light camera left as a hair, and a speed light with a Rogue grid camera right pointed at the wall.

Still some work to do, but it's a good start.

The light is there, the cloths are there, the posing is there. I'm not so sure about hair style.

You're right, the hairstyle is definitely not there. This was mostly a test session to get the lighting down. We're going to do another "real" shoot with a HMUA that specializes in styling from the 40's and 50's on hand. I'm looking forward to that as getting the hair right will be icing on the cake, as it were :)

I appreciate your input.
