Timeless Elegance

It is now more than a decade since I took this shot. It was on our first trip to Africa when we visited Deadvlei, which is located in the Namib Desert. We scouted the location in the afternoon and decided to return before sunrise. In the middle of the night a sandstorm moved in and when I got in our 4x4 it was still blowing like crazy. Fortunately Deadvlei is a clay flat surrounded by orange sand dunes, which provided some protection from the wind and dust. This frame I took when the first light illuminated the dune in the background. The hot and arid climate mummified the trees after they died. They are believed to be some 700 years old,
