Love Triangle Swimwear
Here's another photo from my recent gig in Freeport, Bahamas for the lovely swimwear line of "Love Triangle". This was from the morning of day two of two-and didn't even use a reflector for this shot.
It was about 10 minutes after sunrise and there was some low clouds blocking the sun. This was just as the sun was trying to come out of the low cloud-line so it was still kindof overcast. Add that to the white sandy beaches of the Bahamas there was just enough bounce to fill in: for the next minute or so. The sun would rise just offshore at my 2 o'clock.
So with a bit of perfect timing thanks to the clouds I was able to pull off this set with not even a reflector, which for a strobaholic like myself just amazes me!
ISO was at 100 instead of my typical LO1 (ISO50) to retain a bit more detail in my highlights. And I kept the shutter speed at 1/400 with an aperture of f/2.5 to provide a relatively shallow DOF with my 85mm f/1.4-I felt that shooting wide open was just too much. I did underexpose by about 1/2 of a stop on the girls for the highlights. Knowing in Photoshop to do what I always do and bring up the "Fill Light" in Camera Raw-yep I still prefer Process 2010 over 2012, to fill in the mid tones.
So don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone and try something new! To me I would've typically brought a ton of lights and overhead scrims to produce "my style" of photography. But in this case less definitely is more! Thanks to going "light-less" for this job I covered so many setups and looks at more then triple the time I typically would've taken if I brought my usual setup.
