How To Create Undead Zombie Skin in Photoshop

In this video tutorial, watch as Dean Samed shows you how to create undead zombie skin in Photoshop. If you like creepy images, check this out.

As the video starts Samed gives us a quick breakdown of the image on which he will be explaining the zombie skin process. First showing us the background stock which is a high-end stock photo of a fashion model. It is cool to see how such a beautiful image can be turned into a scary one. Continuing the breakdown Samed shows us his various selections used for each feature of the face. Samed likes to work on each feature rather than to apply things globally. Working like this gives you far more control when editing. Moving on we see how grunge textures are applied to the skin to create a good base for the zombie skin.

As the tutorial moves on Samed shows how he incorporated CG assets into the image. Using a zombie CG head he would selectively paint on the specific areas. Because the zombie's head was CG he was able to move it into various angles which meant he could then take a screenshot and get the best angle for every piece. A very effective way to build up the effect. We then get into the meat of the tutorial where Samed shows us how to blend these CG parts into the face of the model. And yes, you may have guessed it, but we do this with layer masks. Layer masks are one of the most important parts of a composite process, without layer masks, we would not be able to hide or reveal the various layers.

This video is great for anyone who likes to see how images were created but also to show how powerful layer masks can be.
