5 Great Urban Portrait Locations

The awesome thing about shooting portraiture in a city is that there are so many options for locations and looks, meaning you can easily create a large volume of worthwhile images in the span of just an afternoon. If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options and wondering what some of the best locations are, check out this fantastic video tutorial that will show you five of the best spots for your next shoot.

Coming to you from Justin Laurens, this excellent video tutorial will show you five great options for urban portrait photoshoots. If you are someone who normally shoots their portraits at a wide aperture to isolate your subject, try stopping down a bit the next time you are shooting in the city. With all the visual interest, it is a shame to not show off a bit of the environment around your subject, particularly if you have found a nice texture that complements them well or an interesting geometric construction, etc. And do not forget that thanks to the complex geometry of the buildings and foliage, you can often find just about every type of light: hard, soft, dappled, and more. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Laurens.
