It's no secret that many people have predetermined opinions about strippers and the private lives they may lead. In a recent project by photographer Bronwen Parker-Rhodes, their lives and their method of self-expression via exhibitionism are put on display.

Parker-Rhodes' began this project after forming relationships with some of the dancers at various clubs she would DJ at. It begs the question, 'How do you capture the private lives and intimate moments of someone that exposes everything (or almost everything) regularly? What do you choose to reveal?'

Parker-Rhodes explains: "There's definitely a difference between performing to a crowd and a single person behind a camera, it becomes far more intimate. There's also a difference between performing for a male audience for money, and at home, for fun and in control of how they want to be portrayed."

Personally, I like the juxtaposition in the images that take the woman out of the club and place her in a much more mundane space. There's a good amount of humor, sweetness and intimacy that add a wonderfully personal element to the portraits.

What do you think? Does it make you view them any differently?

HI Chris,

I hope you won't mind if I take this opportunity to give the young guys at Fstoppers a public service announcement: "Stay away from strippers at all costs. Don't believe anything that they say because they are always lying."

Thank you!

"No matter what a stripper tells you...there is NO SEX...in the champagne room." - Chris Rock

I dont get it, it's just strippers acting like strippers in a different setting. How does this help the viewer to 'relate' and connect?
The only thing this shows me is a stripper only looks hot when I'm drunk in that club late at night!

Total dissappointent. Misleading title.
There is no added value anywhere. At best we see an amateur's private album.

Seriously, what where you thinking.

Love high-res photos of prickly armpit.

So inspirational. Wow the stories they tell.

lmfao

Haha, you're so right. This really is to an extent what this site has come to. The inflation of articles is insane.

Apart from the semi interesting subject matter, these photos are - dare I say it - crap. At best they are snapshots. The composition, lighting and quality are terrible. I've seen better pics from people with iPhones. I know art is subjective, but I don't see any art or skill in these. Sorry to be so harsh, but it is what it is.

I like the thought and the intent behind this. But the final result does not match the intention, and my positive view about all women (whether they are strippers or not) has not changed. Assuming that "strippers are bad" is what is reinforcing that notion, nothing else.

Seems to me the guy used some fancy art language to convince some strippers to let him take nude photos of them. Lame.

The photographer was a woman :)

"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Anybody else notice how messy these strippers are .. makes me wonder about ever getting a lap dance again.

Why is this an article on fstoppers? Come on guys. You're better than that.

A friend of mine has a daughter who had a career of stripping. I never saw Candy perform, but she has a great body. Her daughter also has her looks, but she is not continuing in the stripper industry.

Cool story bro

i was expecting documentary photography but this is not... check out alicia vera's documentary project with access to strip clubs and strippers homes. much better than this. this was prolly shot in three days. http://aliciavera.com/index.php?/projects/stripped/ also this one on one woman: http://aliciavera.com/index.php?/projects/eden/

Alicia Vera is fantastic!

I consider this one of the WORST post I've ever seen here!! Instead of teaching something, showing something, the REAL life. Seriously, there's nothing, in pictures, neither in contents!

Well that was kinda disappointing. Its somewhat of a missed opportunity to show off the person behind the stripper but no, all she's done is show off boobs in their home. I guess she should stick to dj'ing and leave photography to those that know how to do it.

I sort of agree...majorly disappointing shoot. Other than the fact that this person got access to the home of a stripper(wasn't hard; the photographer was a woman) I see little value here if any for people frequenting FStoppers. I hate to trash the work of others but this isn't the kind of stuff I come to FStoppers for.

I thought image 2,4,6,10,14,16 and 18 were great.... and bravo to the Photographer for getting access to the girls after hours in the privacy of their own home... not an easy thing to do... Great Job!!!

You had the opportunity here of showing us the real home life and intimate moments of these women who happen to work as strippers. What you've done, however, is simply asked them to act like strippers at home. Are we to believe that these women don't have a part of their lives that don't revolve around taking their clothes off? This is shallow work, and the pictures aren't even good.

Amen!

Hep - C on film

As someone in the dancing industry, I am so tired of seeing people depicting us and our home lives in a lurid manner. Unflattering, sensationalist and exploitative.
