Uncanny Upside Down Photos By Marc Vicens

Uncanny Upside Down Photos By Marc Vicens

As many of us take normal portraits of people, some take the next step and turn the world upside down with their work... literally. In Marc Vicens latest series "The Faces of Unemployment" he does just that. Take portraits of people hanging upside down.

Here is a description from his website:
“The practice of a globalized economy vertigo, has resulted in a situation that has led many people to feel or be “hung”. Marc Vicens has its special way of looking at this, more and more large group and achieved a surprising result. It’s not just the personal image of “hanging”. Marc has managed to reflect the “new expression” that occurs when a person is in this desperate situation. It is like entering into the feeling of anxiety that governs the daily life of these people. Reality is inverted resulting in an image photographed naked sentiment. It is the expression of the anxiety experienced by anyone because of a destructive economy, feels or is “hung”.”

Good concept.  Not crazy about the photos.

I love out of focus photos. +1

I agree with Jared. good concept just not very well executed.

we are all agreed then... really simple yet humorous and creative... and then they forgot how to take a photo

Not to take anything away from Mr. Vicens but I think Brandon Voges did a better job executing the concept.

It's one of those ideas you think of, and then after you take a few to try it out, you say to yourself, "Naw, that's actually pretty stupid and has no meaning." These portraits are not only NOT flattering at all, but does not really have any philosophical meaning behind them. I mean, what's the purpose of it? What's it supposed to make us think about? All it does is make them look bloated and stupid. The only cool part of it is the hair!

do photos have to have some philosophical meaning?
