Good News for Fujifilm Photographers as DxO’s Latest Software Supports X-Trans

Fujifilm fans have often found themselves hunting around for the best software to process the raw files produced by their X-Trans sensors. Now they have a new option with the arrival of DxO PhotoLab 5.

Fujifilm introduced the X-Trans sensors back in 2012, offering an alternative to the classic Bayer color filter array that sits in front of the vast majority of camera sensors. X-Trans brings some advantages in terms of capturing detail and avoiding moiré, but the raw files have proven more challenging for software creators to denoise and demosaic, two of the processes fundamental to converting any raw file.

In the latest version of PhotoLab, DxO has for the first time provided Fujifilm photographers with an engine that will process X-Trans raw files, albeit in beta. DxO is asking users to report any bugs via this link.

DxO has also released an updated version of PureRAW which is designed to prepare your raw files at the beginning of your workflow before you edit them in software such as Capture One or Lightroom. PureRAW does not yet edit X-Trans files but assuming the beta testing goes well, it's probably not far off.

You can download a 31-day trial of DxO PhotoLab 5 by clicking here. Will you give it a try? Let us know in the comments below.
