What Unretouched Photos From Victoria Secret Look Like

Victoria Secret, the company famous for selling underwear, lingerie, and overall sex appeal, is also notable for their amazing models. By the time you see the images from their catalog or campaigns, they are always retouched. Do you ever wonder what the shots look like before retouching? Here are a set of unretouched photos of V.S. Angel, Doutzen Kroes, from a recent shoot.

Victoria Secret released these shots on accident in a public area of the website.

These images were posted to a public area of the VS Web site (apparently in error). They come from the forthcoming September catalog, which explains why retouched versions do not yet exist for a side-by-side comparison. They were shot around July 21 in Turks and Caicos. Even without retouched images to compare, the raw shots are still interesting to look at. -Jezebel

Although the final shots are not released, here's an idea of what you can expect them to resemble.

How do you feel about the shots before retouching?

All that HYPE! and no Camel Toe? whats the point of this again?

These are great shots as is, but as a previous poster commented the product IS the bikini, not the model and the focus ultimately should be on that... not any imperfections the model may have.

Stretch marks? Don't see any, closest thing is the 2 scars on the right thigh... and if your calling those "stretch marks" you are really not qualified to part of this conversation.

i am a cutter , so as soon as i saw the cutts/bruises (not saying shes a cutter) made me love doutz even more
cause i thought the models were perfect ...seeing her flaws , is seeing she is human LOL thats why i only like unphotoshoped pics of the model cause they really dont need photoshop half the time and all that make up

These photos make me realize I can make it as a victoria's secret photographer if I actually make the effort of getting there. It's not that the photos look bad, but with a good retoucher, my photos would look the same if not better than these for sure

I think it's the supermodel factor + make up...and your name is James Cameron

They still look pretty goog to me...

Those aren't stretch marks, they're razor blade scars from self-harm. And the model has no muscle tone in her arms at all. Models aren't perfect. They're just skinny girls with nice bone structure.

I agree about the cutting marks... very sad.

I don't see any "flaw" in their body's? if that went out in an advert I would not even realise that they weren't retouched, unless I was sitting there analysing them.

I am a Nature Photographer... perfection is in the unique beauty of each creature, plant and landscape...  I prefer to see people a little less photo shopped... skin has glorious texture and the scars are a map of our lives.

I find some of the discussion here quite amusing with people talking as if other fields of photography don't involve all kinds of post-production gimmicks. How to do think Mother Nature feels when you landscape shooters "replace sky" and HDR the living daylights out of your photos? In fact, I was quite shocked to learn that "Half Dome" actuallly isn't even in black and white. Ansel Adams you liar!

But for my taste the model to become a sexy woman should get 3-4 pounds and not have these terrible abs! General models apart from the beautiful face, have bodies which are not considered erotic but more good hangers for clothes. When they finish their careers and relax, get some pounds, they transformed from hangers to a sexy women!

Considering Victoria's Secret sends these same models down a runway live every year in their fashion show where no retouching *can* be done, I don't see the issue.  Everyone can see what they look like 'live' ... there's hundreds of copies of the live photos and video taken online.

Ummm have you noticed the amount of "TV" makeup is put on them as well as how fast they cut the show at various angles?

Unfair!!! how can UNretouched photos looks like retouched photos.  Here goes my self esteem... no wonder VS model got paid million dollars.

These are Really good photos before editing. Some of these photos should be used in commercial print. They will work, just go for it and put them out there.......

As a retoucher I think what most peopple need is education as well as information, I dont see people complaining about getting into a wardrobe and not be able to get to the land of Narnia, and I think it is because we ALL can tell the diference between a fiction and reallity, and even if there is one person that can not, at the end of every fictional movie there is a sign that say that the picture and the characters are all fictional. So when it cames to advertising photography and retoching there is only information missing, maybe its start whit a sign that says: these photos are fiction, and with time like we accepted movies and enjoyed them for what they are FICTION, we are gonna be able to accept retouch as Fiction too. and enjoyed the FICTION of a perfect body, face, etc.

So from my understanding after reading some of the comments on this....The People who are PRO-Un-retouching images practice this themselves in their photography? If so, I would LOVE to see some of your ports...Cause I can guarantee you that everyone here manipulates their photos to some extent. Retouching doesn't mean it has to look like Barbie. But if you want to enhance that photo - retouching is a must. No matter how good your lighting is, your camera is, ALL pictures have flaws that any professional will look at and want to retouch.

Nothing is hard about this shoot.  White card beautiful woman long lens and an acute awareness of light.  Its not hard to take a good shot of a beautiful person.

Doutzen Kroes is a beautiful Dutch model with or without retouching. You guys would wish that your girlfriend looks like this!

it would be interesting to see the final retouch to see how FAR they go. It's also interesting to see that the photographer duffs up his exposure occasionally, but you know, a good shot is a good shot and once the retouchers have had their wicked way, no one will know.

Is it only me, or does she have her mouth open throughout ALL of the photos?

I bet they are bummed about the leak.. I would actually be interested to see some people sweating. I quite like seeing them un-shopped.. Makes me feel better about my own lighting skills, haha :)

Ok... so much shadow in the face. Don't they use reflectors.

Sorry if this is an amateur question, but does anybody know who they use for their retouching? For companies like this that need so much retouching so frequently, is it a firm that does it or many people contracted for the work? I've never been able to find out what companies retouch for retailers such as this.

They are catalog images, and the point is to sell the product - not the model. Distractions like panty straps, skin wrinkles and bulging from body flexing, awkwardly-protruding limbs, etc., distracts from the product (the clothing). Basic retouching is required to achieve the intention purpose of selling the product. I took the liberty of retouching one of the images as an example of my point. It is for demonstration proposes only, and claims no relationship with Victoria Secret.

I'm curious about why my first post duplicated. Has this happened to anyone else here? It won't let me delete one of them.
