Mt Cook (New Zealand)

This location is a relatively easy location to get to (about a 45 minute walk along the Hooker valley track). The night I arrived there I decided to scout out the location just to get an idea of where to go to, how long the walk was and plan my spot etc. I then proceeded to do the track 5 times in just over 2 days trying to capture the perfect light.
My final capture (the one you see here) was a little foolish of me to attempt. I was alone, walking over rocks frozen with ice in a flooded river in a remote location. But with the weather due to pack it in that evening I felt this was my last chance to get this shot. And as I think we all feel when the light starts to play nicely at a location you have been planning for a while, a little extra risk does not seem silly at the time.
Commercially I offer a slightly brighter version of this image but my personal taste is more towards this darker image as I feel it draws more attention towards the mountain and the reflected light in the water.

Like the low pov and the use of the long exposure give some great movement within the sky and milky water gives good foreground interest too

Great photo - rocks, water, tussocks, mountain and sky all in play.

Great work
