Bokeh Machine: A Review of the Sony 135mm f/1.8 Lens

The 85mm lens is generally the most popular choice for portrait photography, but 135mm has long been an alternate favorite of a lot of photographers. Just like the former focal length, there are some impressive 135mm options out there, one being the Sony FE 135mm f/1.8 GM. This great video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Matt WhoisMatt Johnson, this excellent video review takes a look at the Sony FE 135mm f/1.8 GM lens. I have always loved 135mm lenses. My first Canon L lens was the EF 135mm f/2L, and it has remained one of my favorite options for over a decade. Such lenses offer a bit more telephoto compression that can be more flattering on some facial features and stronger subject isolation, as long as you can handle the longer working distance (be careful if you work in a studio). And as part of the respected G Master series, you can expect top-shelf performance from Sony's version, with a variety of elements and coatings that bring less distortion, better sharpness, and deeper contrast. Add in the rounded 11-blade diaphragm for extra smooth bokeh, and it looks like quite the impressive performer. Check out the video above for Johnson's full thoughts on the lens.
