it's a fine lens
it also weighs 2x as much as the midprice 18-55 2.8-4
the latter is often sold as an "upscaled kit" where it costs < 40% of the 2.8
if you can tell the difference in output between the two lenses, you're in very rare company
Ive never directly compared them but I own both and the 16-55 stays in my bag because its just outstanding image quality... I might have to swap them back for a period to check the qualities of the kit lens but its going to be tough removing that lens from my bag.
Also 16mm is super useful and I use that focal length loads.
