Just How Good Is the New Sony A7R V?

Glyn Dewis takes a look at the Sony A7R V with his usual comedic but incredibly informative style. He compares it to his existing A7R IV and looks at the new updates to the software and hardware on this updated camera model. Now if you managed to catch his earlier video that was recently taken down you'd have seen that the issues he had when using the new Sony A7RV whilst focussing on the subject in the video were less than ideal. This refresh of that video comes as Sony reached out and sorted a few of the issues that plagued the version he was loaned. The changed settings are clearly documented and this is an ideal resource to help you decide whether this camera is a worthy upgrade to the previous version and worth spending almost £4000 on.

Glyn's self-deprecating humour and all round good vibe easily come through with an entertaining yet incredibly informative watch.  The some would say overly complicated menu is broken down with visual guides and the reasoning behind the options chosen.

Being a Canon user, I was pleased when he mentioned in an earlier video he was testing the R5. I knew it would be a great camera as I own the R6. Still, as Sony sent him this newer model to test,  whether he ends up changing from the A7RIV may or may not be answered in this video.

Glyn discusses the new flip and tilt screen and the addition of the long-awaited touchscreen (why has it taken so long for this to be included?), the new menu and the basic problem when switching from stills to video mode, with the inclusion of the solution through the clever menu selection, the inclusion of focus bracketing and the new A.I. Processor for focussing.

Using a moving subject to test the focus tracking brings surprising results, though I'll let you watch the video to see what you think.

His tone and content is great. There is tons of information to help you make up your own mind, and one can only wonder if cameras are going to go the way that mobile phones are going with much smaller, incremental upgrades rather than huge leaps in technological advances.
