A Look at the Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens

A 24mm lens with a wide aperture is already quite versatile, but add in image stabilization and macro capabilities, and it becomes one of the most useful you can carry. For Canon shooters, there is the RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM, and this excellent video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Alex Barrera, this great video review takes a look at the Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lens. With a minimum focusing distance of 5.5 inches, which translates to a 0.5x maximum magnification, it offers a lot of versatility and some fantastic creative opportunities, particularly with the addition of image stabilization. Along with that, it comes with one ultra-low dispersion element and one aspherical element for reduced chromatic aberrations and increased sharpness, Super Spectra coating for reduced flares and ghosting and deeper contrast, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh, and a customizable Control Ring. While there are some compromises to get the price to a competitive level ($599), it looks like quite an interesting option. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Barrera.

I'm a zoom guy myself but if you need the shallower DOF for $600 it's relatively affordable.
