A Review of the 7artisans Photoelectric 50mm f/1.05 Lens

50mm lenses with wide apertures are quite popular, offering a versatile focal length in tandem with a lot of light-gathering power and narrow depth of field for portrait work. At $399, the 7artisans Photoelectric 50mm f/1.05 looks quite intriguing, and this excellent video review takes a look at the lens and the performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the 7artisans Photoelectric 50mm f/1.05 lens. Available for Canon RF, Sony E, Leica L, and Nikon Z mounts, the Photoelectric 50mm f/1.05 offers a very wide maximum aperture in tandem with a versatile focal length, all at a very affordable price for such a lens ($399). It comes with a wide range of features, including:

  • Two ultra-low dispersion elements for reduced color fringing and chromatic aberrations and increased clarity
  • Depth of field and distance scales
  • De-clicked aperture ring for video work
  • 13-blade diaphragm for especially smooth bokeh

Perhaps the most notable drawback of the lens is its manual focus design, but with the focusing aids of modern mirrorless cameras, this is not as much of a drawback as it used to be, as long as you are not photographing fast action. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Frost.
