A Review of the New Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens

Tamron has established itself as a maker of both pragmatic lenses at practical prices and more unique designs that the photo world has not seen before. The new 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is one of those more unique designs, offering an interesting focal length range that sits between two more traditional zoom ranges (16-35mm and 24-70mm). This great video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this excellent video review takes a look at the new Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens for Sony E mount cameras. Along with that unique focal length range, the 20-40mm f/2.8 comes with a range of useful features, including:

  • Minimum focusing distance of 6.7 inches (maximum magnification of 1:3.8)
  • Rapid zoom ring with a short 65° of travel
  • VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor for quick and quiet autofocus and compatibility with Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF
  • Moisture-resistant construction
  • Fluorine-coated front element for protection against dust, moisture, and fingerprints
  • Weight: 12.9 oz (365 g)

Altogether, the 20-40mm f/2.8 looks quite interesting. Check out the video above for Abbott's full thoughts on the lens.
