Perhaps no lens finds itself as the workhorse of choice in more photographers' bags than the 24-70mm f/2.8. However, such lenses are quite expensive, and many photographers do not need that f/2.8 aperture. I have always preferred 24-105mm and 24-120mm f/4 zooms over their 24-70mm f/2.8 counterparts. 70mm always felt just a smidgen limiting to me on trips or photo walks, and rarely if ever did I need f/2.8 in those situations. Beyond that extra reach, the f/4 options tend to be lighter and about half the price. Of course, that is not to say 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses don't have their place; they are indispensable to many wedding and events photographers, but if you do not need that extra stop for low-light situations, you and your bank account might be better served by a lens such as the 24-120mm f/4. For my F-mount cameras, the 24-120mm f/4 was the last lens of many that I bought even when I had the 24-70 f/2.8. I found it was the lens I had on my D810 most of the time. The zoom range of the 24-120 is a near-ideal travel camera and I shot portraits with it that I delivered professionally. I've no experience with the Z-mount cameras but I vouch for the range.
