A Review of the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II Lens

24-70mm f/2.8 lenses are the workhorses of choice for a wide variety of photographers and filmmakers, suitable for anything from weddings to landscape work and much more. Sony recently released the second iteration of their version, the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II, and this great video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this excellent video review takes a look at the new Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II lens. The second version of the lens comes with a variety of improvements and new features, including:

  • Smaller footprint and reduced weight
  • Two ED (extra-low dispersion) and two Super ED elements for less chromatic aberrations and better clarity
  • Five aspherical elements, including two extreme aspherical elements (XA) for less distortion and better sharpness
  • Nano AR Coating II for less flares and ghosting and better contrast
  • Minimized focus breathing, focus shift, and axial shift
  • De-clickable aperture ring for video work
  • Four XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors for quick and quiet autofocus suitable for photo and video work
  • 11-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh
  • Two customizable focus hold buttons
  • Adjustable zoom ring torque
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant construction

Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.

I usually hate these video reviews of equipment from someone I've never heard of - or Tony Northrup!, but this one is very good..
