The Most Advanced High Speed Robot Used For Video Ever

Just when I thought I had seen it all I was sent this incredible video by one of our readers. The Marmalade, a special effects studio in Germany, has created an incredible high speed robot used to film precise moments during ultra high frame rate takes. The results look so perfect that I thought I was watching CGI at first. Even if you aren't into robots you will want to watch this video for the most stunning macro videography I've ever seen.

[Video] Zombie Boy Rick Genest Stars in Sick Dermablend Video

Rick Genest (aka Zombie Boy) is nothing if not intense. The 26-year-old Canadian fashion model is tattooed head to toe to look like a decomposing corpse, representing “the art of the rotting cadaver.” Genest, who you may recognize from Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video, spent over 6 years and thousands of dollars on his body art project, so who better to star in a commercial for tattoo-cover-up cosmetic company Dermablend?

How To Shoot Better Videos With Your DSLR 1 of 3
3 months ago Patrick and I didn't have the slightest idea how to shoot or edit video but in seeing the importance and the power of this movement we decided to teach ourselves how. It was challenging and frustrating (especially with Nikon gear) but we finally learned enough to produce decent videos quickly. If you own a DSLR that shoots video we are going to make this simple for you. In the next 3 days we are going to release 3 videos that discuss: camera settings, audio, and editing. Today let's start with the camera settings on the D300s. View the full post to see a similar video for Canon cameras.

Patrick Boivin Creates "AT-AT Day Afternoon"
I have been on Vimeo for probably an hour going through one terrible BTS video after another. There is so much talent out there but so many of these videos have no details and are so boring. That all changed when I ran across Patrick Boivin's "AT-AT Day Afternoon." The BTS video has no talking but it is still totally informative. The finished video is in the full post and it is AMAZING.

Live In NYC? Let's Meet Up... Again
A few weeks ago we decided to try to get FS readers in the NYC area to meet up one night. We made a simple post with a time and address and it turned out to be a great event. Over 20 photographers showed up included a few big names in the industry. At the end of the night Peter Hurley actually invited everyone up to his studio for a tour and actually gave us all some quick headshots. I had such a great time with our last event, I want to do it again. Tomorrow (Thursday August 12th) we will be meeting at D.B.A (41 First Ave. New York, NY 10003) at 7pm. Honestly, this get together has little to do with Fstoppers. It is really about meeting others within your industry. No matter how established you are, we would love to see you tomorrow night. At the last event we had a couple of the top photographers in the industry and we had those who were just getting started and wanted to start assisting. This event will be great for networking and an all around good time. If you plan to come please leave a comment below so we can have some what of a heads up. Update: I have just been given confirmation that David Bergman will be there. You may have seen one of his 8 SI covers.

August Contest Winner: Ken Brown
I am proud to announce our first monthly contest winner is Ken Brown. The theme for the photography contest was "technology" and Ken delivered a gorgeous shot of a Lotus sports car. As promised, Ken now has his own banner on the top of our website and he gets to choose the winner of the September contest. The next theme is "motion". Please submit your pictures by posting them here.

Let's Grab Lunch In NYC: Update
This weekend I shot Travis Harris' wedding in Vermont and now I am back in my second home, NYC. In case you didn't know, Oct 28th-30th is the PhotoPlus Expo and I plan to be there all three days. If you are looking for a group to go with, we would love to have you join ours. Until then, I thought it would be fun to meet some new people around the city. I am completely free on October 20,21,22,25, 26, and 27 and I would like to join YOU for lunch. If you are interested, simply send me a note on Facebook with the day, time, and location where you would like to meet and I will show up (Manhattan and Brooklyn only). I don't care what you do for a living, or what you want to chat about, I'm really up for anything. Also, if we get a big enough group interested I will be happy to throw another FS get-together one night. Let me know if you would be interested in that in the comments below. Update: So far I have been booked for lunch every day except for Tuesday the 26th and Wednesday the 27th. If you are free for lunch either of those days let's meet up! Update 2 All of my free days have been booked up and I am now double booking days. If you can do a really late lunch let me know. Otherwise let's meet up at the expo.
