5 Items a Portrait Photographer Brings to Every Shoot

James Quantz Jr is one of the best portrait photographers out there, with his innovative lighting and dramatic concepts making for eye-catching images. While every portrait photographer knows the importance of things like lights, there are some other items that we think about less often, but that can be tremendously useful on a shoot. This fantastic video essay features Quantz Jr discussing five items he brings along on every shoot.

Coming to you from James Quantz Jr, this helpful video discusses five items he always brings with him on a shoot, including reflectors and much more. Perhaps the most important (and free) item is the mood board. Creating a mood board before a shoot can be a great way to plan ahead, establish the shots you are looking to get, and ensure you and the client are on the same page. Bringing it to the shoot can help keep everything on track, provide a bit of inspiration in the moment, and help ensure a level of cohesion in your images. It is also a great way to keep the client actively involved in the shoot, which can only serve to increase their satisfaction and investment in the process. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
