Download Canon’s EF 40mm Autofocus Firmware Fix

Did you buy the Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens, that our very own Jaron Schneider reviewed, only to be disappointed when it’s autofocus stopped working? Well don’t sweat it. Canon just released firmware 1.2.0 to rectify the problem. The downside is you need to be the proud owner of a Canon EOS 1D X, 5D III (at v1.1.3 or later) or a Rebel T4i/650D to install the upgrade. All others will need to send their lens into Canon Service. Eek!

                Well that’s good to know..

Well that sucks for us 7D and 60D owners.

If one purchases a new lens now, has the new firmware already been installed to the new 40mm lens?

              • http://www.facebook.com/hiroschneider Jaron Schneider

Is it software for the lens, or for the body? I assumed it was for the body.

              • http://www.facebook.com/hiroschneider Jaron Schneider

Also sucks that it doesn’t work for those of us most up to date with Mac OS.

              • http://www.hearkencreative.com Loren A. Roberts

Oh…then why would you need to send the lens in? The article says “All others will need to send their lens into Canon Service.”

              • http://www.facebook.com/hiroschneider Jaron Schneider

Good point sir. And that makes your original question an excellent question. I guess we have to assume that their new lenses will have the latest firmware, but any new lens you buy isn’t necessarily new from the factory. Could just be previous stock.

Just download any of the OS X files, then just open the .dmg and put the file inside on an memory card and the camera does the rest. Nothing to do with OS.
