Olympic Photographer Leaves Lens Cap On

We’ve all left our lens caps on before but it usually takes a split second to look through the viewfinder and figure out what the problem is. This Olympic photographer took a little bit longer to figure out that his lens cap was the reason for his blank images. Unluckily for him, these embarrassing 12 seconds were broadcast to the world.

I noticed it live, and thought…why does he even have lens caps with him???  I never use lens caps at weddings or events. with my uv filter on, I can’t really see the point.

                I agree Chris, Josh, & Tim.. :)

In all seriousness though, lens caps are a pain in the ass period.  Not only am I occasionally forgetting to take them off, everytime I do I have nowhere really to put the damn things.  They end up in pocket, in my gear bag, etc and by the time the shoot is done I have to scurry around and try to find them.  I realize their necessary, but at the same time it’s a bit unfortunate there isn’t some other way to protect the front element of the lens.

Rear caps on the other hand work out great, you take one off a lens and put it right back on the one you’re taking off…
