April Challenge - mobile street

As suggested by members in the recent 'Shooting from the hip' post this month's challenge is to take 'street style' images using only a mobile device.

I fully understand that most feel uncomfortable putting their camera in front of strangers on the street, but as explained in the aforementioned post this can be achieved on smartphones in a way that remains invisible to the subject.

Of course, we would not want to take any images that might cause embarrassment, but I feel the key to good street photography is to capture moments, perhaps interesting gestures or expressions, the movement of a figure into a shaft of light etc.

You get the point. The idea here is to encourage members to be creative and help perhaps get over a fear of shooting the public. If hesitancy remains, try shooting family members or friends, with a goal of capturing their natural character.

For those that remain reluctant other forms of street photography may be considered (architecture, wider vistas etc).

So, let's challenge ourselves this month - get out, enjoy the Spring weather and make a concerted effort to make use of the camera in our pocket.
