                I’m scratching my head over here. What – uh – I – uh, I don’t even.

              • http://twitter.com/Thomasl2003 Thomas lawn

That 24-70 better blow the 24-105 out of the water for that price. I’m just terrified of the day Canon wants $3,500 for a 24-70 f/2.8 IS.

              • Chris Helton

I’m with you Thomas. Better blow it out of the water. I dont get it. I love my 24-105. PixelPeepers talk about it being ‘soft’ around 70 and up. I don’t notice it really in photo’s, and shoot a LOT of video with it so it doesnt matter as much.

I just dont understand why Canon would do this? For the macro addition? Everyone wants the 24-70 2.8 IS. Basically cut off the 70-105 and add $600 to the price tag? wth?!

              • http://www.facebook.com/adi.radulescu Adrian Rădulescu

i find it rather easy to understand. it gets canon a lot more money selling multiple half-job-done lenses rather than an ultimate-lens. there will be a lot of people that will spend their money buying any new lens that comes out, jumping from 24-105, buying both the 2.8 and the 4.0 and so on.. it’s not about putting out there the best product, the best price, it’s all about squeezing every available penny from the market. another example: it took canon ages to finally get a lens cap that can be removed while wearing the hood, now everybody will spend some for those

              • http://twitter.com/Thomasl2003 Thomas lawn

hahaha well you’ve got that pegged. The only hitch is that anyone that cares enough could go buy a chinese pinch cap for cheap whenever they wanted. Likewise, I’d bet that the first company to make a 24-70 f/2.8 IS that isn’t Tamron is going to get some switcher dollars. I just hope it isn’t Nikon, because I want that lens! I don’t even care if it weighs a ton.

I can tell these 2 lenses are useless
Canon are making big fails lately
Why to buy 24-70 F/4 IS ? which way more expensive as long as i can buy a more zoom lens with the same features like EF 24-105 F/4 IS for less money ?
Would i buy it for the lil macro thing 0.2m minimum distance?Hell no!!And about the 35mm F/2 i guess they were targeting filmmakers with this lens as they added the “IS” Feature also a big fail from canon the IS will not change a thing because likely most of filmmakers are using “Flycam/glidecam”The F/2 aperture also is a big fail and filmmakers wont go for F/2 lens with such a focal length and they would go for the Sigma 30mm F/1.4 or the Rokinon 35mm F/1.4.

              • P3NGYJ03

We asked for a stabilized 24-70, and we got one… Just with less focal range.

              • morph8788

                that means 850 euro for a 35mm f2 prime… LOL

they have lost their minds over there in japan.

              • morph8788

i rather buy the sigma 35mm f1.4 then this canon nonsense.

from experience this means 850 euro here in europe for the 35mm f2.

not much greeks who can afford this lens……

              • photoshutz

Didn’t even bring the new 24-70 down to 2.8, and its what i have been waiting for. So ill guess I will just hit the tamron stand then,,

              • http://www.chromaticaversion.com/ Kyle Sanders

I used to hold that over my Canon friends as the one, undeniable way that Nikon was clearly superior, but now that’s no longer true. Deep hoods on wide lenses where especially painful! (70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8)

              • richardaevans2

What da’ ham sandwich!! Why does Canon insist on continually not giving a ‘flip’ about what the photography community wants!! It’s amazing to me how arrogant these guys can be… having said that, most of us will go ahead and shell out additional hundreds to get Canon’s latest! lol. Any chance of a Canon users’ boycott???? …Naw, I doubt it!

              • Jr Miller

                I assume you meant…aperture?

I’m very much looking forward to the 35mm f2 IS. If the image quality is excellent, this will be an incredible tool. I’ve always wanted a 35mm focal length but couldn’t afford to own the 35mm 1.4L (Thank God for rentals) and the cheaply made alternative was not an option. These lenses are an awesome addition to an already sweet lineup and finally, the non L lenses are getting the better builds they deserve.

              • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.lowman Jeff Lowman

Both of these are targeted for film makers.  Canon videographers have been screaming for these light lenses to have an IS version.  The f/4 is great because while walking or even having the camera on a Merlin or stedicam, it is impossible to change focus.  So keeping the depth of field deeper helps out tremendously.  I can see photographers being frustrated with this because it falls short of what they need but videographers should be very happy with these new lenses.

              • http://www.facebook.com/steno12 Stefano Druetta

i’ve been waiting for a revamped 35 f2 for the last four years, now it shows up and BANG, 8 effing hundred bucks!? you kidding?! gonna seek around for a used 35 L instead. :D
now seriously. i desperately want a 35mm lens. but. but. then i think i might get multiple advantages since i’d be using it a lot on video too..
                wishlisted for next spring, aaalright!

              • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001971536134 Chris Malley

I agree to a certain extent, but seeing as all lenses can be stopped down, filmmakers don’t need to buy a new lens JUST for shooting in f/4.

              • http://www.facebook.com/steno12 Stefano Druetta

do you see that a 2.8 version with current pricetag AND stabilization would have appealed and convinced BOTH targets at the same time, photo and video? especially nowadays photographers are stepping both feet into video.. exactly what tamron is doing right now. i wish they improved their build quality. i had a 28-75 2.8 and it was crap on that side..

              • P3NGYJ03

Ahhh yes, sorry :P I was mixing my thoughts with the 24-105 :P
