4K Preview of the Panasonic GH5's Noise and In-Camera Stabilization

The Panasonic GH5 is due for release in late March, and it seems Panasonic was so happy with its product pre-release that the company has loaned plenty of bodies to influencers to publish preview footage. Every day, new preview clips pop up online, but none as comprehensive as this one by the team at Camerahoarders.

Just by eyeballing their footage and comparing against the GH4, this video suggests that we're looking at between a half-stop and a one-stop improvement in noise control. The in-camera stabilization looks far superior, especially when pairing it with the new Panasonic 12-60mm f/2.8-4 lens. And lastly, as expected, the 4K footage looks super sharp. Expect a comprehensive Fstoppers review once the product is released.

Kai W gave his typical casual, off-beat thoughts last week, and Gordon Laing set up a really nice 4K noise comparison with similarly featured mirrorless cameras such as the Olympus OM-D E-M1 II, Fujifilm XT2 & Sony A7s II. Although not uncommon to send out pre-release versions of cameras before release to build hype, it seems that the Panasonic GH5 is capturing the imagination of filmmakers who have been long-term admirers of the GH4, but found its limitations and frustrations in areas such as noise and stabilization.

The only thing that is missing in pre-release testing is the internal 400 Mbps ALL-intra FHD and 4k 4:2:2 10-bit recording mode, and that's because we'll all have to wait for a firmware update in Summer 2017 according to the firmware roadmap.
