A Camera You Can't Buy Today: Fujifilm X100V

We've written about it numerous times, including my recent review called "The Unattainable." And even though the rumors of its successor are spreading rapidly, the Fujifilm X100V is still on many photographers' wish lists. Yet, the availability leaves many who do not want to buy aggressively priced used units just wishing for it, with low chances of getting one anytime soon.

YouTuber GxAce is well known for his beautifully crafted cinematic videos or short films concentrating on photography, visual art, and camera gear. His videos have a certain cyberpunk-esque look to them. Some might say he is inspired by the worlds of Blade Runner, the original Total Recall, and similar technological dystopian movies and games. One thing is apparent, he loves photography, and the cameras he uses for it.

His latest short film/review talks about the very hard-to-obtain Fujifilm X100V, in which GxAce talks about how perfect travel/pocket camera it is. The video emphasizes its simple yet elegant controls, one-handed use, and the very unique hybrid viewfinder, allowing us to use either the electronic viewfinder or a classic optical one with modern digital overlays.

And while none of us know for certain if and when we're getting a successor anytime soon, if we do, it will in no way invalidate the current model, the X100V. It will still take gorgeous images, and it will still be perfect for many photographers as an everyday carry, always ready to capture whatever is going on around us. I know I love mine. Ever since I bought it, I haven't left the house without it. Have a look at GxAce's video and let us know about your experience with this joy-to-use camera.

While I understand the current issues with product and parts shortages, the utterly ridiculous “unavailability” of the X100V has pretty much ensured that I have no desire to purchase this camera if it ever comes available, as well as any other Fuji camera in the future. I am probably wrong, but I have had my name on a couple of different waitlists for almost a year now, and I am starting to feel like there is more to the inability to purchase one of these cameras than simply parts shortages and popularity. It feels almost manufactured how hard it is to get an X100V. At this point I have given up ever getting one.

I absolutely love this camera and I literally carry it everywhere I go. It stays in my satchel bag along with my wallet and other things I need for the day. Like when I say I carry it everywhere I go I literally mean it goes with me everywhere in that bag. The photos that I have gotten with that little camera and some of the film recipes that I've uploaded to it are completely priceless to me now. I get so many compliments on that camera from people every time I pull it out. So that other guy who's saying he will never purchase one because it's been out of stock forever will surely miss out on it if it ever becomes available and he has the ability to buy it.

Same with me. I've managed to buy one recently and have it on me at all times. It's perfect to have with you. Sometimes I'd prefer a longer lens, but that is just because I'm super used to running my Fujis with the 56/1.2.

It's nice that you get compliments on your camera. I prefer to get compliments on my photos.

IT IS FREELY AVAILIABLE ON B&H ....

It's listed as out of stock though.

No it’s not!

I've been a Fujifilm shooter for well over a decade. I've owned every X-T camera from the X-T1 through the X-T5. I've also owed several X100 cameras. In my opinion, the X100 series of cameras are super overrated and overpriced. They don't even come close to the interchangeable lens cameras in Fujifilm's lineup. The people who love them most usually don't bother to see what else Fujifilm has to offer. With the release of the X-T5, the X100 has become completely obsolete. Thanks to YouTube influencers, the absurdity of this camera has been boosted to another level. For what you get (or lack thereof), the Sigma GRIII is a far better camera with a much lower price tag.

Shortage is artificial. I stick with my leica mono

I'm on the wait list but not sure if I will buy even if one appears available. It's 4 years old with a likely upgrade in the works. I turned to the Ricoh GRIII, which in my opinion, out performs the older X100F (which I've owned) in every way. In the meantime, I'll wait to see what the x100V successor offers.
