The Power of Lightroom for Landscape Photographers

It can be overwhelming for a landscape photographer when it comes to the editing process. Between all the sliders and sections in Lightroom and a myriad of options in Photoshop, it can be difficult to know where to start. This video walks you through some simple steps in Lightroom to enhance your photograph, with the final touches done in Photoshop.

Mark Denney reviews some basic Lightroom adjustments to help enhance a recent image he captured in Menorca, Spain. In this video, Denney walks us through the image, the direction he saw it going, and how he uses radial gradients in Lightroom to help highlight what he saw when composing the photograph.

Denney reviews the global adjustments he makes to the entire image to reach a starting point. He then summarizes his process of working from the larger sources of light to the smaller pools of light he wants to emphasize. Using a series of radial gradients, he walks the viewer through his process and adjustments to get the look he was looking for in the image.

He walks the viewer through two final steps in Photoshop to fully complete the image and provides a tip for once you think you are done with the image.

I frequently find myself waffling between Lightroom and Photoshop for my landscape photography editing. This video was helpful in bringing me back to the basics and demonstrating just how powerful Lightroom can be for the landscape photographer. There were several tips in this video I will be putting into practice when editing my images in Lightroom.
