Cambodian woman portrait...

Every line… a story…

I met this woman in a very poor part of Phnom Penh in Cambodia, and knew I had to capture her image.

The lines on her face probably put her in her 60-70’s but a hard life will do that to you…

She has weathered many storms throughout her life, a life of poverty, heartbreak, political unrest, genocide, and loss… lots of loss.

She was however not short of a word or two, and our translators were kept very busy passing on stories about her life. (Boy could she talk!)

Cambodians are a very hardy people, they need to be, as those that survived the genocide are few, and they did what they had to do to stay alive.

The stories are heartbreaking, and something a first world traveller cold never even begin to understand.
