lame lighting

I Appreciate your feedback. What's your opinion about the composition or foucus or even the content. In other words was there anything you can say that was done nicely.

Well, first of all if you want show the cake (it's in the title) - just show the cake. As exaggerated as possible. There are numerous ways and techniques to do that. The cake is main thing but it has at most 10% of the frame space. other decorations just draw attention. It is very challenging to make a good composition of items as a rule, especially for newbies.
Then, your image desperately needs for separation of the subject from background. Look closely – the cake is almost white and curtains are almost white too. You can lit for example the cake from side, while leaving background underexposed, thus making it much darker and creating by that nicely pronounced profile, shape and texture of the cake. Or you can try to shoot close-ups of the cake, its decoration, lettering etc (sometimes small part of the whole can be much more meaningful than the whole itself).

To note the things that was done nicely is no use in my opinion.
But if you want to I could say that vertical lines are pretty straight, it's a success in some manner )
