I like photos like this. How can we make this one better? There is a person in between the trees in the background that could be retouched out. I think a vignette would help this as the lower left and right areas do not contribute and may actually be a detriment to the photo. A vignette will help focus the viewer's attention toward the main subject. Also the background may be beautiful unto itself but it is distracting from the main subject of the photo, the root ball, because it IS bright and beautiful. The deep shadows of the root ball need to be a little visible, they have gone black here. I like your eye and choice of subject and I think you need to keep coming back to this site to take additional photos under different lighting situations. How about a day when there is fog in the trees and you can use a little flash to highlight the subject. You've chosen a difficult subject to photograph- kudos to you for pushing yourself.
