Working Late-Rochester, NY

The image shows a white collar worker arriving home late to a dark empty house. The stark lighting, deep shadows, large areas of negative space and the realtor's sign on the door, imbue the image with a sense of emptiness, desolation and instability, perhaps reflective of the subjects state of mind at this point in his life. The shot was made using only the available light from a streetlamp outside and intentionally overexposed to open up some of the shadows, allowing the viewer to perceive certain objects within the room such as the fan, the light switch on the wall and some boxes on the floor and leaning up against a wall. I used a Nikon F3 with a Nikkor AI 50mm f/1.4 lens and Kodacolor 400 film.
