For the past few months, we've been fortunate enough to collaborate with the awesome people at SCOUT Design Collections - a local gifting company - for their product photography needs.
Their gift boxes showcase products by some of South Africa's best designers and artisans, so we wanted to capture the rich details, vivid colours, and beautiful textures of the designs in the most creative way possible, while still promoting their brand effectively. And therein lied the rub, as the Bard would say.
Drawing design & lighting inspiration from still life painting, and Knolling (or "flat lay") photography - with a bit of Los Guapos magic thrown in for good measure - we finally settled on a photographic style that was painterly, yet represented the brand accurately.
