This week's Critique the Community theme will be "Winter." Submit your best images now to receive feedback from the community and a chance to be critiqued by Lee and Patrick.

Between now and January 22nd at 11:45 PM EST, you can submit up to two of your best Winter themed images. We will be selecting a total of 20 images from the community to provide feedback to and will also be choosing two winners to receive a free Fstoppers original tutorial. The first winner will be decided by the highest community rated photo and the second will be chosen at random.

Once you've submitted your photos, scroll through the rest of the submissions to give honest ratings and feedback. The easiest way to rate the pictures is to use your keyboard's arrow and number keys. We also encourage you to leave helpful and positive feedback when you see an area where an image could be improved.

I've given a few 4 stars, and only one 5. But definitely a lot of 3s, which if there were more 3s that would already be a start.

I’ve only rated about 6 photos in this contest, two 3s and four 4s. I would rate more, but I’m super busy and unless I can actually give feedback on how to improve I won’t give a 1 or 2. I also do not rate photos that are in genres I don’t personally care for, so for example I don’t rate portraits because I don’t have an eye for them.
I do give out 5s, but I haven’t seen any in the few photos I’ve actually looked at... I’m usually all for looking at each photo with fresh eyes, but just seeing snow covered landscape after snow covered landscape is making it hard to stay interested, haha.

As it’s my first go at one of these I’ve made the effort to vote on every entry - by ‘eck there’s a lot of them!
I seem to vote slightly above the average for most entries, which may reflect on my own modest expectations!
I think the system seems ok, even if open to a little gamesmanship. However I wouldn’t consider myself experienced enough to pass comment on others work, so if that was an actual requirement I definately wouldn’t have voted on everything, especially genres I don’t shoot. I am perfectly happy to take constructive words on my efforts though.

I have voted 709 photographs in this competition and have given 19 five stars and 69 four stars. So in generally I have voted up a lot of pictures.
I wish good luck to all of you!

better to gate bed ratting with good subjection then just good rating.

Rip this is my first critique and i think both of my pictures are gonna be under 3 :(

Do not fear, Ethan. It's normal here. ;)

Don’t take the contest numbers too seriously. I submitted one of my 4 star images, and it’s currently sitting at a 2.6

I see a similar pattern. Rating during CTC are around 1 star lower, then if in my portfolio. So if I get something around "solid" during CTC, I'm super happy with it. :)

You and me both, Ethan :D I've been following the critiques for a long time so I was well aware that the community is quite demanding. For me that's a good thing, let's see how it goes.

Had some ideas on the next CTCs since I think it was put out there for suggestions. How about your own (meaning the community) wedding or engagement photos (assuming you have the rights to them I suppose)? This will not only be a wedding critique but also judge how well you thought your own photographer(s) did. If not that, than I submit the following: Long Exposures, Desert, Tattoos & Piercings, Reflections, or Levitation (see a lot of interesting and well conceptualized examples of this).

Dear contest administrators, kindly proceed for closing voting ASAP, my pictures ‘ rating is dropping down each day you keep it open! ;))))

I guess this week. Good luck!

any idea of when the winners will be announced? (<- asking for a friend)

Hey fstoppers-team! I really appreciate, that you give us photographers a place to get inspiration, to compete, and to learn, but you should rethink the strategy behind your contests:

I think all submissions should be displayed in the same thumbnail size. So every submission has the same awareness.

I think ratings would be more honest and helpful, if only people with no submissions could vote.

You should not be able to see the photographers name and info before voting to avoid, that people are biased.

Think about it! Thanks!

I think something helpful would be randomizing the order of the photos when the page is refreshed. Obviously the last people to submit will have their photos shown first for the entirety of the voting duration. The first few people who submitted will have less votes (imo).
