Koh Lanta is not a very popular tourism destination in Thailand and i've been there during low season.
Even so, it was my favorite place in a full 13-places-1-month-travel though Thailand and Vietnam, because i've met the best people there and we had all for ourselves.
You can see some of the thousands of dragonflies that were there in the left of the frame.

Was the lighting bad? Is the resolution/sharpness too low? Its missing color at post production? Is it missing a stronger subject? Is there a better crop?

I think the composition is solid, but the lighting is not that interesting. I think that shot would be better at golden hour and with a little bit more post processing
