This is in the charming town of Colmar in France during a canal boat trip. After a long discussion with myself, I decided that it looks best in black and white, the light on the woman in the white dress draws the viewer's attention directly to her and the boat.

Great capture of some amazing light. Could the image have a narrower crop? Some of the wall and fence feels unnecessary, and cropping in a little would give your subject more draw.
I see what you mean. For me the crop you propose would break its symmetry and panoramic sense.
