This was a college portrait shoot. A TA came in and modeled for us. This was taken with a 4 foot soft box @ 45°. I was still getting the hang of the camera but it turned out ok. Needed to stopp down more.

At f/11 I don't think you need to stop down more unless you meant something else. In this case your camera was too high. The eyes below center frame make her seem smaller and the focus goes to her forehead. Lower the camera and this image gets much better. I think your lighting is fine, just need to work on the composition.
