Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 with Softfocus

Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 with Softfocus

Who It’s For:

This lens is a beautiful portrait lens, but it’s something of a special purpose lens as it has the ability to produce a soft focus effect while still remaining technically sharp.

What We Like:

Softfocus Feature: This will appeal to some and be a little strange to others, but if you want to make photos with a sort of dreamy glow without having to do any post processing, this is definitely the lens for you.

Size: This camera is light, small and fairly inexpensive.

What We Don’t:

Build Quality: The build quality is a little plasticy and not anywhere near the solid build quality of the 135mm f/2 L

Old Design: This design is currently 25 years old, so it’s definitely taking a page out of the “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It” book. That being said, lens technology has advanced by leaps and bounds since 1987 so there should be something new they could do to it.

Not Very Sharp: Out of softfocus mode, this lens isn’t incredibly sharp. For It’s price it’s passable, but nowhere near the L version at this focal length.
