Who It’s For:
The Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a professional wide angle lens and one of the three lenses that any professional photographer with a Canon camera will own (Along with the 24-70mm and 70-200mm). It’s expensive, but it’s tack sharp and built like a tank and ready for years of heavy use.
What We Like:
Sharpness: It’s not quite as sharp as the upgraded version of this lens but it still holds its own and as long as you’re not shooting at f/2.8 in the day and expecting miracles in the corners, you’re going to be alright.
Operation: It just works.
Price: Since being updated, this lens is quite a lot cheaper than it’s big brother and if you’re not incredibly worried about sharpness in the corners at wide apertures, this is a great lens at a great price.
What We Don’t:
82mm filter: you’ll probably have to buy a few new filters for this one as the front element is quite large.
Distortion: There’s quite a lot of distortion at 16mm, but that’s going to be the case in all ultra wide lenses.
