Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM

Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM

Who It’s For:

This is a mid-range telephoto zoom that is quite a lot cheaper than the professional offerings from Nikon and Canon, so if you need this focal length, it’s a bargain considering the other options in this range.

What We Like:

Build Quality: While it’s not comparable to a professional series lens from Nikon or Canon the build quality is solid.

Sharpness: This lens is fairly sharp at f/2.8 when using manual focus.

What We Don’t:

Autofocus: The autofocus system on this lens seems to have some flaws causing images at f/2.8 to be somewhat soft.

Distortion: There is pincushion distortion throughout the entire focal range, with it being noticeably strong at 150mm.

Chromatic Aberration: There are very noticeable fringes in the corners at 150mm

I really like this lens! I've owned it for about 2 years and I frequently use it for Headshots. The AF is definitely below par at anything over about 120mm. But it is really fast and I use it indoors to shoot with ambient. I MAKE MONEY with this lens!

I love this lens too. I have it in a Pentax mount, and I find it sharp, accurate at focusing, and I love the colours it produces. It's always in my bag when I'm on a shoot.
