I think minimalism is technique that's pretty widely overlooked in a day and age of technological gadgets and trending image processing styles... people tend to forget the core principals of art and composition, myself included. So I made it a point to shoot minimalist images at least twice a week for the next month and focus on the basics of composition.
I'm not claiming that it will be groundbreaking work but coming from a music performance background I feel exercises/drills are the best way to become efficient at a technique. These were a few from last night. Very minimal post processing was done, the focus was getting it right in camera. I used one SB600 speed light through a beauty dish for a hard unidirectional light on a flat white background and my Nikon 18-135mm which has a minimum focus distance of 9" so it lends itself well to macro shots, especially on DX bodies, which makes it effectively a 27-200mm. Comments and critiques are welcome but I'd love to see some life in this group.
