david huguet's picture

marine terminal

For me, the minimalist photo consists in extracting the essential from a place, a character, an object or a situation. Summarize the subject to what emanates from it, what is its essence.
This photo shows a marine signal post off Deauville (France). The Channel's skyline crosses an object perpendicularly with a basic/simple geometry and symmetry. It is at the same time an image, according to me obviously, documentary and aesthetic without any effect with the exception of the time of exposure in order to obtain a calm marine surface. Let me draw your attention to the black section of the post intersecting the sea surface.

David - wow! I can't get over how you intersected the horizon with the colors on the post. This is simple beauty at it height! This is a favorite for me. I also agree with you philosophical view. It is interesting to hear from photographers how they think about these concepts. Thanks for giving the image and your thoughts.

Thank you Ruth!

Another good image, very much in your style, David. You are a natural for this group. And yes, getting the colour junction precisely on the horizon is an inspired choice. Well done!

I do love simplicity in photography. In french, the word is "l'épure". I don't know the equal word in english. Draft? Skretch? Thanks a lot for your nice comment!

Bravo, an excellent composition David, I especially like how that red color just grabs the eye.

Simple, peaceful, and bold with that single color. Great shot.
