4 More Details

These four are part of the same "Details" series as the last set. The first one was shot by the Philadelphia Delaware River waterfront and the other three were sidewalks in the Fairmount neighborhood, not that the location matters much. There is something to shoot everywhere. You just have to look.

A larger selection of these will be shown at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Chautauqua, New York most of the summer.

Hi Andrew,. You have nice color in you work. I don't feel that the first two are minimalist or abstract however. The second two are. They just aren't making me feel something. I don't know if it is the center weighted composition (which I'm not a huge fan of unless it is very symmetrical.) And these are slightly off center but not enough to be considered off center. I would love to see them cropped into a thirds junction to see if that felt better. I also think these would be interesting if you had laid down and shot across them from a low perspective. Just a thought. Sorry for the tough critique. It's just my opinion.

How low is low enough? The camera was around my knees. (The first two about waist-high.)

Andrew, nice work! At first I thought the colors were a little over saturated but then read your description and realized that they were for print. The first is a little busy for me. I love the second one. I would have liked to have seen the third one with a thinner dof focused on the 'treasure' inside. The fourth is a true gallery shot. It draws me back over and over to look at it. Great work and good to see shots for print on the board.

Yes, they are oversaturated on purpose, and contrasty, but not because they are for print. The only thing I change between files made to print and file for on-line is the resolution. These are all on heavily traveled sidewalks and have been worn smooth with little inherent texture. Also, the color and contrast say, "While this is real, it's not really real." Otherwise, they are just pictures of the sidewalk.

Interesting conceptual series Andrew!
