Take 2 Ink Floats

I took some advice and added cream to the ink. I did get more interesting things. Still need to dig out the flash though. I am trying to get a composition element into these so that they they are more than just a drop of ink. I welcome thoughts.

its like a strange jelly fish... what are you using as a tank and why aren't you using a macro lens?

I am using a square glass jar with a black piece of paper behind it and a flashlight. I didn't use a macro because I had a senior moment and had the silly thought this would work better. Don't know what I was thinking. I have a few days off now and want to work on this and a macro lens will be in use! All advice welcome. I'm still not getting the clarity I'd like but I haven't taken Phillips advice to use a flash yet either. I don't normally use one and when I first tried these, I wasn't skilled enough to keep a huge glare off the glass.

Just get an under water camera housing with a WiFi trigger they aren’t too expensive only $1500.00 🤣

Now YOU almost made me spit my coffee!

I like the third one, Ruth! Weird, trippy - conjures up flying saucers, the solar system, nuclear blasts, a dancer, a spermatozoon. I'd better take my pills, I think. Good (right-handed- bravo!) composition. Confess: you flipped it for non-southpaws, didn't you? ;-)

While you're using the macro, I'd think you ought stop down to f/16 or even further. DOF may be part of your limited sharpness. The water changes things, but the pills aren't working yet and I can't work out if it'll increase or decrease DOF compared with air.

Chris you always make me smile. I almost spit out my coffee laughing at your description. I can honestly say that I have never has a photograph likened to sperm before! :)

I had not thought about the water and DOF. However, check this out. Notice ink is fuzzy but toys are not. Now what do you think? I think it is speed and that I am not getting it fast enough?

No, I think it is DOF, Ruth. The black figure in the first, and the foreground green blobs in the second are OOF - insufficient DOF. A short shutter speed will help with movement, of course, but your fluid blobs are sharp when they're about as far away as the figures. I'd use f/16 - f/32, but play around & see.

All a bit bizarre. Gonna need my pills, I can see.

I'm so glad that you have told me this! I've definitely been going in the wrong direction. Can't wait to get back at it now!

Lmao Chris

I think I failed the Rorschach test. :-(

It's always a butterfly - or you are going away.

I like No. 3, the butterfly. :-)
