Hi Jeremy, This is an interesting image! I like the composition. You've taken an ordinary item and captured it in an interesting way. What I am missing is your amazing skills with lighting. I think this would really benefit from something like a nice side light or ...? Keep up the great work though! I love seeing the imaginative things that you come up with!
Jeremy, I laugh that your description makes this sound like something anyone could have thought up and done. My hats off on another really cool, well composed shot. I love that the depth of field fools the eye into a converse / convex on the pit and hollow.
You have some great ideas, Jeremy! I admire your imagination. Love this one!
I don't know if you were aiming for shallow depth of field. You took this at f/4, making the pip blurred. Personally I'd have preferred it sharp - shallow DOF tends to remind us we're looking at a photograph, because we often see it in photos.
Ruth makes an interesting point here, which could even make for an entirely different take on this subject. Personally I like the flat lighting here, which gives rounded, soft avocadoes an entirely different vibe! Just for fun, I've "abstracted" it further with an edit.
