For reasons irrelevant to this group, my projects for the last two years have been looking at things underfoot and also things in the wetlands behind my house in Pennsylvania. Very few people (not zero, but close). These two are from the "Details Underfoot" series (shot at Spruce Street Harbor Park in Philadelphia) and the wetlands pictures (some seen in this group) are "Ground Level Tango." On most of these, I have elevated the saturation and contrast somewhat beyond what normal practice would suggest. I have also cropped the camera's native 3x4 aspect ratio to 2x3.
Hi Andrew.
I really like the strong graphical nature of the first image The diagonal lines and contrast between red tiles and the gray area provides interest. I feel however that the balance is off - as the eye is drawn to the lighter area I think this should be less-centered in the frame.
Here's a very quick crop just so you can use for reference - I think this would work even better if the tile to the left were darkened ever so slightly.
Great work on this!
To be brutally honet the second image does nothing for me - I find my eye bouncing all over the frame as there is no reel subject or anything offering interest
Hi Andrew!
I'm in close alignment with Alan - but not perfectly.
I love the first one. Great color, texture and lines. All broken by the gray chip is really nice. Like Alan, I think the crop is off a little but I would have gone the other way (Chris - look its right facing!) Just an alternative to think about.
The second one has interest for me as well. Again - I think it is a crop issue. I would get rid of the differently textured rock on the tight and the plant by tightening it up a bit too. On the example I also put on some side just for giggles.
I bet these would be part of a very interesting "below my feet" series with a bunch of different abstracts of surfaces. This is right up my line as the type of images I like and I like these!
:o)
