Jersey Beach Abstract

The beaches near the jetties in NJ have the white quartz sand common at Atlantic beaches along with the black sand of the black rock the jetties are made of as it breaks down. Sometimes the swirls of these colors create amazing abstracts.

When I was a kid (1957 or so) my father told me these swirls were the result of oil spills from tankers sunk by the Nazis off the coast during WWII. Whichever, they do make interesting patterns.

I do like the geological patterns, most of all in b&w. Like clouds, these patterns are really short-lived objects. Paradoxically, these abstract objects are made with some millions years old materials like silicious rocks which could be a part of volcanoes or mountains.
Ruth, you know how I appreciate b&w photography. I'm wondering if colored version may emphasize geological patterns thanks to the diversity of sediments.
