Beautifully simple image, David! Certainly fits criteria for minimalism. Good that you have the boat sailing into the image, inviting us to look where it's going, which is not out of the frame.
Some people would flip the image so the boat is sailing to the right. This tends to look better to many; because we write from left to right? something to do with handedness? - moderator Ruth often tends to make images that I get an impulse to flip, and she's written on Fstoppers that she's left-handed.
For my tastes, I'd try to show a little more sea texture. Colours "straight out of the camera" have often had saturation boosted. This looks a little vivid to me, compromising its calm ambience. Additionally, to my mind the restraint you've shown would be emphasised further with a restrained colour palette.
Also, the boat looks a bit high in the sea area, so I'd be inclined to crop to change that, and place it closer to frame edge, emphasising where it's going even more.
This is all reflected in my edit. But that's my vision, not yours. You may see a happy image with bright colours where I see calm. Just offering food for thought. Post more. You have good images in your portfolio.
I like the original. Sorry Chris! 'Reality' doesn't read - things move in all directions. And if photographers follow this rule religiously, photography as a whole becomes generic. I would leave this unflipped. I also think this suggested crop loses the sense of vast emptiness the I liked in the original. It would just be up to David about his goal for this point.
Nice work David! Looking forward to more!

I'll make sure to do so. I'm quite new to this and was testing the waters a bit if you excuse the pun.
Beautifully minimal ~
Oh yeah. I like this. It really emphasizes the vastness of the open ocean. And it is very vast.
